1. In the novel Noah’s father is explained as quite a character, funny, loud and exciting. He’s not wealthy but enjoys the good things in life and appriciates what he has. Throughtout the novel as I was reading about Noah’s father the way he acted and his personality reminded me so much of my dad. One night Allie comes to visit Noah at his home and he invites her in to have breakfast for dinner and they sit at the table all night and talk and laugh. My father is one who’s favorite was breakfast for dinner and also a unique guy , one that you can get along with easily like Noah’s father. Both not wealthy but enjoy what they have and make the most out of it. I could connect and relate to the bond between Noah and his father because of how closely he reminded me of my own dad.
2. The whole setting in “The Notebook” is in Sea Brook, South Carolina. It’s a small town beach setting and reminds me of Cape May, New Jersey. When I was in my Freshman Summer I went on vacation to Cape May with Liz Ishman and her family. I never have been there before but it was nothing but, ocean, small shops, boardwalks and victorian style homes. Although the time periods are different, the way Nicholas Sparks describes the setting where Noah and Allie spend there summer of love matches. There both small town beach settings, with towns people and the typical “beach homes”- meaning victorian homes or homes of different/unique colors. This connection is important cause it sets the scene of the novel and creates a easy visual because there both so easily simular.
3. In the novel Allie has a passion for painting and art all together. In her life of busy classes, foreign languages and following her parents plan for her life she escapes in painting. When she is with Lon she is forced to live a different kind of life- a more sophisticated life. When Allie is with Noah she is able to express herself- they have a open relationship and he knows all about her passions and dreams. When Allie is back with Noah on her visit to Sea Brook, she finds herself waking up to roses and arrows pointing to a certain room. She follows them and there was everything she could have used to paint. I would have loved to have all of the painting supplies she was given. I love art- painting/ drawings anything that requires creativity. I can relate to Allie in that aspect.
