1. The whole setting of this novel is in Swansboro, North Carolina. Although, you may think of the beach and a summer setting. Nicholas explains it as not just that, he provides a detailed description that Julie lives in an area much like this one. The sunshine on the lake and clear sunny sky’s, provides the perfect description of the nice weather and sunny days that you would be very likely to have in the state of North Carolina. But also the woods and lake provide that description that the book gives. There lake is big enough to have docks and homes surrounding it but also not too big that it’s unrealistic for Julies small town. I chose this picture out of the other ones I looked up because it provided both descriptions more clearly then others.
2. At the very beginning of the novel Julie explains her life with her mother and there home in downtown San Francisco. She explains how they didn’t live in poverty but they were never considered high class or barley middle class. This photo is what I pictured when I read that chapter of “The Guardian”. San Francisco is a very fast pace high building and towers city but to me this area looks like downtown, with a lot of traffic and also middle class apartment buildings everywhere you see. I don’t know why but the taxi in a way represents to me, how her mother was never around growing up and always out of the house or even when she was home there was a stranger home with her. This whole picture even the small details reminds me of how Julie described her home growing up and that’s why I chose it.
3. A small bar/ restaurant on the beach front is where Julie and Mike share there first date as more then friends. It’s a local spot that’s very popular in Julie’s small town. It is described very little other then it overlooks the beach and that there is an upper level where Julie and Mike are seated, while Singer (Julie’s dog) rests underneath on the beach. I pictured this perfectly from the description because it has an upper level, with the beach, the tree’s near by and it also looks like a small town place not to fancy for there area. It looks like a small homey place that Julie would enjoy.
4. This is a picture of an actor/ model, Julie Christie. She reminds me more then anyone else of what Julie Berenson looks like. Julie is described by Nicholas Sparks as a homely women, the age of thirty, with brown flowing hair, pale skin and passionate deep green eyes. This woman has all of those characteristics and is the exact imagine that is described. Julie the main woman in the novel was described many ways throughout the book, her mellow personality and feel. As well as her friendly smile and warm heart. By looking at this picture I get the same feel from Julie Christie as I did reading about Julie Berenson. 5. Julies mother and her get in a huge argument towards the beginning of the book and Julies mom forces her on the street. To support herself she works in a local diner as a waitress making low money and barley enough to support herself. The way she describes the diner during the beginning and a flash back during the middle of the book, makes me picture a place like the one in the picture. A small wrap around counter with a small seating area not formal at all. A small place where only one waitress and on occasion two is needed. She explains it as a small diner, crowded and not very neat right along the main road in downtown San Francisco.
