“Dear John” by Nicholas Sparks is a sappy romance novel with a surprising twist. The plot of this novel is complex and warmhearted. The author is talented and can capture every feeling of the moment, in the moment. He can describe details so well that you feel like you’ve experienced it before in your own life and can relate to how the characters in the book feel and what they say. Even in a teenage perspective he can capture how younger people feel in love or when they think there in love down to exact words. This novel is set in Wilmington, North Carolina where two young people meet on the beach pier and for the most part fall in love at first sight. They share there love and experience a lot of things together and their love for each other grows and although it last through Johns years spent in the army stationed in Germany it eventually tumbles into a shocking ending and realistic view of life. I would rate this book a seven out of ten because the ending isn’t a happy one. The novel was so good and had me interested and wanting to read more about there love and relationship and then towards the end it started to not make much sense and wasn’t a happy ending but still in a way a realistic one. Overall it was well written, well detailed and kept you hooked like any good book should. The only negative is it wasn’t the ending I was hoping for and didn’t make much sense.
